J. K. Rowling in trouble! Everyone distances themselves!

Rowling's in trouble! MuggleNet and The Leaky Cauldron, two of Harry Potter's most established fan communities, have issued an official and joint statement in recent hours in support of transgender people, distancing themselves from the transphobic comments of series author J. K. Rowling on Twitter a few weeks ago. (But let's not forget about his quarantine initiatives I've talked about HERE.)

"While it's hard to criticize someone whose work we've admired for so long, it would be wrong not to use our platforms to counteract the damage it has caused. Our position is clear: transgender women are women. Transgender men are men. Non-binary people are non-binary. Intersex people exist and should not be forced to live binary. We are on the side of Harry Potter fans in these communities, and while we do not forgive J.K. Rowling for expressing her views on transgender people, we reject her views on this," the sites wrote in the statement.

The decision of both sites is to stop following Rowling's professional activity outside of the Harry Potter saga, deleting links that lead to the purchase of works outside the world of Hogwarts, not posting the link of her site and deleting the images that portray the writer at times of her private life.

Rowling has expressed her opinion on trans people, creating a real media fuss.

Rowling also sent a tweet praising Stephen King after the latter showed support for trans women, as reported by Variety, MeuggleNet and The Leaky Cauldron, some of the most famous websites dedicated to the cult of Harry Potter. In fact, they have issued a joint communiqué in which they take a clear position.

In addition, the sites claim that from now on they will refer to Rowling on social media as #JKR, thus allowing fans to quickly mute the hashtag to prevent posts about the author from appearing in feeds.

The admirers add: "We've seen so many people use Harry Potter books and fanfictions to explore their identities as they spread love and acceptance. We know that this is still possible, and we want to continue to be part of this movement. We are committed to doing a better job of empowering discriminated against people and creating positive change through our platforms. This is a renewed commitment to serving the Harry Potter community with greater awareness than in the past."
