Harry Potter Wizards Unite

Pokémon GO was a "magical" success to say the least. Aspiring coaches of all ages have taken to the streets in search of those adorable monsters that, through augmented reality, still populate the corners of our cities. And now, many of them, will pose the Poké Balls, to wear hat and cape and arm themselves with a wand, possibly that of Elder, even if we know what a bad name it has! Niantic, in collaboration with Warner Bros., is ready to repeat the same magic as Pokémon Go with Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, the new licensed title inspired by the immortal mythology created by Rowling.

Recovering the playful assumptions behind the previous title, the game, arrived on mobile devices (yes, I'm doing gameplay) entices us to invade the city streets once again. From what you can see from the various photos and videos, it is far from being a simple clone or a banal reskin in "potterian" sauce of its spiritual predecessor, Wizards Unite has proved to be the proof of maturity for the San Francisco studio, which continues the path of refinement that began years ago with Ingress. In fact, many of those who played Ingress will surely have noticed the similarity to the game of Pokemon GO, this time we can be pleasantly surprised with a combat system in the fortresses and much more! There will be duels, they will cost in ENERGY! Thankfully not exactly as in Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery, that energy spoils the game. Players can then recharge the energy of spells at particular points on the map, where they'll also find magical ingredients for special potions, passports to reach iconic wizarding world locations, and more. The comb
at skills of witches and wizards are then tested in some real-world locations called Fortresses, key points that will give rise to Magical Challenges. These real-time multiplayer battles against dangerous enemies will require players to join forces to defeat ever more powerful threats and unlock rare rewards.

The game

Did you think that after the defeat of "you-know-who" peace would reign forever? Wrong: A mysterious and inexplicable event, called Calamity, has spread various objects and enchanted creatures around the baboon realm (no-mag for the American ministry).

The risk is that the world of magic will soon be exposed: that is why the Ministry has called for the intervention and enlistment of all magicians skilled enough to counter the imminent danger. From here, we, through our Smartphone, famous emh magic string, we will be able to observe the effects of the "Calamit" within the human dimension. The goal is simply to find all the hidden traces and bring them back to their original home, before some baboons notice their presence. To do so, we will have to take to the streets, strictly incognito, together with our colleagues and bring everything back to normal, so as to avoid catastrophe.

Setting

The game is set in the present day, after the events of The Deathly Hallows, Wizards Unite brings together several elements extrapolated from both the Harry Potter saga and that of Fantastic Beasts, resorting to an iconography clearly drawn to the cinematic vision of the two fanchises. Once the application is launched, we'll be catapulted into a map that reminds you of Pokémon GO in all and over, but in this case, the icons that prop up the streets belong to Rowling's imagination, thus creating a striking and evocative contrast between the realistic vision of the human world and that fairytale of the magical universe. A role-playing game?

As in a role-playing game, in Harry Potter Wizards Unite both our avatar and the monster that hinders us possess a number of life points: our goal will be to move the wand, acting on the bottom edge of the screen, until we hit the target; after that, all we have to do is draw the glyph in front of us in the best way possible, so that we can score the spell and hit the enemy. When the opponent's turn comes, we will instead have to perform the same procedure in defense: the more timing and precision in reproducing the sign, the less damage we will suffer. Before we reach the battles in the Fortresses (often located next to the most important monuments of the city), however, it will become essential to improve our skills as a magician, moving around the map and starting some events, appropriately marked in the form of medallion of different coloration. In some cases, like a new Scamander, we will have to free some fantastic animals trapped in the real world, aligning symbols that manifest themselves on the panel of our smartphone and tracing the glyphs required by the spell on duty. In other instances, however, we will come across the iconic protagonists of the saga, such as Harry and Hagrid, always mired in problematic situations: if we save them, we will be rewarded with a greater amount of experience to level up, and we will also get collectibles that will regret our "album of figurines". Each event is then marked by a certain degree of danger, which corresponds to the panic that would trigger among the muggles if it were discovered. Seeing the good Potter attacked by a Dissenter, moreover, is much more shocking than watching a tender Demiguise as he wanders the alleys of the city.

Finally, scattered along the map, there will also be numerous ingredients of different kinds to collect greedily, useful for creating healing elixirs or potions that sharpen our talents. Similar raw materials can also be obtained in virtual shops called green houses, and will also vary according to the time of day and the climate of where we will be staying. The preparation of the potions will require, as expected, a variable amount of time before its completion: like many other free to play for mobile systems, therefore, we will have the opportunity to speed up the process by investing the resources saved. At the moment it is not clear to what extent the outlay of real money will simplify the playful experience, we can only hope for good! Among the objects to be found there are also the very rare Passaporta that, if used, will open a gap to cross "physically". On the display will open a vortex that will lead to another place: moving in its direction, we will be transported to a workshop in which to grab all the resources available within a predetermined time frame.
